Guanajuato is a colorful and lively city nestled into this valley, or actually
up and down the sides of the mountains surrounding a tiny valley. We seriously
thought about living here, but it is just a bit to big for us. This photo was
taken from the Museo de Momias, or Museum of the Mummies. The soil around here
preserves bodies. The mummies on display are grotesque, either naked or in rotting
burial clothing. Their faces seem to scream in torment, due to the way the lips
dried out. They are taken from a big cemetary. Because there is insufficient space
there, they continue to remove mummified bodies if the family ceases to pay for
the spot.
