We had learned to eat the tuna, or cactus fruit, earlier, but Alfredo showed us how to peel them and get the fruit out whole. They are really delicious, sort of like pomegranates, only sweeter. And there were hundreds of them all around, just for the picking. The hard part is to get them without getting the cactus spines in your fingers. What you have to do is cut or knock them off, onto the ground, then roll them around on the ground with a stick or something. This gets rid of most of the spines. Then you can pick it up and rub it hard on the ground to get rid of all the little spines. Then it is ready to peel the skin off to reveal the delicious insides.
