| We are hiking out from the village towards the little ranch in the mountains. The first stop is the resting hut in the big corn field. This field is rented by our friends. The hut is for cooking lunch in, and resting in the shade, or to get out of the rain while working the corn field in the rainy growing season. They plant the corn around May, and it grows thru about September. It is harvested when dry, anytime from October on. On December there were still some fields with stalks yet to be cut. The corn ears are dryed, usually on a flat roof, anf the stalks are cut and fed to animals as needed. |
