At the last resting spot, on the edge of the village plaza, was where the fireworks began in earnest.

The whole crowd of processionist were hanging around the plaza, and unbeknownst to us, and most of the others, this was the site from which the huge finaly rockets would be launched. We found out when a huge one went off about 12 feet from me! With a boom, huge amounts of fire and sparks shot out the bottom, and spread horizontally on the cobblestones. Sarah, who was about 20 feet farther away, yelled out "Jesus Christ", much to the amusement of the group.

Adrian, who was even closer than me to the rocket, had part of his boots burned off. He was wearing cowboy boots with hair on the outside, and the hair burned right off. The legs of his blue jeans were sooted black, and he lost some of his eyebrows. He thought it was quite a lot of fun, but was ready to move farther away.

A bit later in the evening we saw "Torotinos" for the first time. Torotinos are a wooden or bamboo framework upon which fireworks are mounted. The framework is shaped something like a small bull, or toro. Young boys stand inside the framework and run around with them on. When they are amongst the crowd, swirly fireworks fly off and fling about the ground hitting peoples legs, cars, etc. Other people, mostly boys, see how close the they dare to get to the torotitos.
